Emily Pratt's last-gasp tackle earns Cambridge hard-fought victory over Oxford in Women's Varsity Match
  • Cambridge 8 Oxford 5

Cambridge marked the 30th anniversary of the first Women’s Varsity Match with a gritty win over a resolute Oxford side, Alice Elgar’s second-half penalty proving decisive in an 8-5 triumph.

The Dark Blues fought to the dying seconds, when Cambridge try-scorer, No 8 Emily Pratt, scrambled back to shackle Oxford centre Sophie Trott.

“Emily was my vice-captain today and I swear by it, that last tackle was a try-saver,” said Cambridge captain and scrum-half Kate Marks afterwards.

“That closed off the game. Emily’s an incredible player, an incredible person and I could not be prouder to be her captain.”

Skipper and inside centre Abby D’Cruz was a constant threat for Oxford....
