Huge Galaxy S10 Leak: Specs, Price and Release Date

Leaks concerning the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10 have revealed major components and design decisions, as well as the UK prices of the device’s different versions, and when it’s due to go on sale.

Updated 11:00 a.m. ET: Added accurate conversion for U.S. pricing, taking into account historical pricing differences between the Galaxy S9 and S10.

This information comes from a Gizmodo report, based on an unnamed but known source from “a major tech retailer”. So take the usual pinch of salt with all this information, but perhaps it’s reasonable to be a little more optimistic about the truthfulness of this leak

The Samsung Galaxy S10 (although this might not be the final name) will reportedly launch Feb. 20 2019, a week before the 2019 Mobile World Conference. The phone will then be available for pre-order from that point, and will be released to the public on March 8.

It will come in three sizes sizes and split into a few different storage capacity categories. The standard curved screen (6.1-inches), comes with either 128GB, costing £799 (roughly $1,000 if you directly convert the price to US Dollars); or 512GB for £999 ($1,250).

Below that, you can get a completely flat screen, potentially called the “Lite”, slightly smaller at 5.8-inches, which comes with 128GB for £669 ($840). The larger Plus model has a 6.4-inch screen, and either has 128GB for £899 ($1,125), 512GB for £1099 ($1,375), or 1TB for £1399 ($1,750). This top-end model is quite astonishing, both in terms of capacity and cost.

While converting the cost to dollars gives us a rough idea of what U.S. customers can expect to pay, as our friends at T3 note, Samsung's handsets tend to be less expensive in the U.S. than they are in the U.K. Given that the leaked U.K. prices for the S10 and S10 Plus are roughly 8 percent and 3.5 percent higher than those for the S9 and S9 Plus, respectively, a more realistic estimate for U.S. buyers taking those ratios into account would be $779 for the S10 and $869 for the S10 Plus.

In terms of looks, Samsung is still resisting the notch by adopting a punched hole design that conceals the front camera in the top left corner. On the back, a previous leak suggested that there will be a three-camera array, featuring a wide angle and telephoto lens, but this is not confirmed.

The Galaxy S10 will also reportedly feature PowerShare, the Samsung equivalent of Huawei’s Wireless Reverse Charge found on the Mate 20 Pro, letting certain wireless charging-compatible phones steal power from each other in times of need.

5G will be available on the S10, but not at launch, and there will be an ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint scanner. Both of these features line up with what will be offered by the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chip, revealed on Dec. 4.

It’s important to note that the processor in the S10 is still a mystery, although it is widely expected and hoped that it will be the 855.
