These Are the 20-Plus Phones That Support the Android Q Beta

Update May 28 at 12:26 p.m. ET: Updated the list of phones to include the OnePlus 7 Pro while removing the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

With Android Q reaching its third beta, Google has opened up availability to a wide variety of phones from many different manufacturers.

Right now, anyone can download and run the beta on one of 23 devices from 13 companies, including the OnePlus 6T, Sony Xperia XZ3, Nokia 8.1 and, of course, Google's flagship Pixel phones. (The just-launched Pixel 3a and 3a XL will be eligible in June, according to the Android beta FAQ.) Even the oft-derided Essential Phone has come along for the ride!)

(Credit: Tom's Guide)You can expect full support for all of Google’s own Pixel handsets — which is quite surprising considering the original Pixel and Pixel XL weren’t even supposed to get another Android update past last year’s Pie.

One phone is conspicuous by its absence from the updated list. Huawei's Mate 20 Pro was originally included among the Android Q Beta 3 phones, but shortly after Google confirmed that it was suspending its business with Huawei in the wake of U.S. sanctions against the Chinese phone maker, the Mate 20 Pro quietly disappeared from the list.

Meanwhile, the OnePlus 7 Pro — which debuted a week after the Beta 3 release — should be able to run Android Q as well. OnePlus announced in its forums that OnePlus 7 Pro owners can download the kernel source for Android Q. It will be posting the sources for the less expensive OnePlus 7 shortly.

The process for installing the update is quite simple for Pixel-branded devices, and can be initiated entirely over the air; all you have to do is sign in with your Google Account and enroll your device at https://g.co/androidbeta. If you have an Android phone that wasn’t made by Google and would like to install the beta, the setup is a bit more involved. You’ll need to connect your phone to a PC with Android developer tools installed, and follow the directions listed here.

Here’s the full list of phones that can currently run Android Q Beta 3:

Be advised that Android Q is still quite early in the beta phase, so it’s likely you’ll run into issues with certain apps. Therefore, we really don’t recommend you install Q on a device that you absolutely need to work reliably. If you’d like to take a peek at the update’s newest and most notable features, like Dark Theme, the deeper privacy controls and Android’s revised gesture navigation scheme, hop over to our Android Q preview for more.
